Health Metrics Network releases its new roadmap for 2012-13
25 January 2012
On the occasion of its first HMN Executive Board meeting of the year, the Health Metrics Network issues its roadmap for the biennium that has just begun. This 77-page document, the first HMN product of the year, provides HMN's past achievements, its mission, vision, principles and current focus as well as opportunities, particularly as they relate to the international accountability and effectiveness agenda.
The document, entitled Health Metrics Network Corporate Plan 2012-13, lists five Key Results Areas, which pertain to strengthening health information systems, and it provides all deliverables in great detail. These are:
- To build three regional networks of partners;
- To establish an HMN Knowledge Centre;
- To accelerate global action, investment and resource mobilization;
- To demonstrate leadership through support for catalytic activities; and
- To establish an effective governance and management structure and processes.
An innovation of the Corporate Plan is its examination of risks that HMN faces or could face and their potential impact. All risks identified are ranked numerically on a scale of extreme to low, and risks will be updated four times a year to reflect a changing situation and reported to the HMN Executive Board for information and, if necessary, action. The Corporate Plan also contains an HMN Executive Board ethical and professional Code and a self assessment listing all Executive Board Member responsibilities. "This is a fantastic piece of work that clearly and precisely specifies what HMN will achieve and deliver on in the near term," says Dr Marie-Paule Kieny, HMN Executive Secretary ad interim. The ambitious, but realistic, Corporate Plan was prepared by its Secretariat and approved by its Executive Board in October 2011.
