Better reporting systems needed for neglected tropical diseases

The WHO report Working to overcome the global impact of neglected tropical diseases, covering 17 diseases occuring almost exclusively among very poor people living in the tropics, was launched today. At the event, the WHO Director-General said that this first WHO report on the issue identified needs such as new diagnostics and drugs, better reporting systems and larger supplies of existing drugs. She also underlined the importance of national ownership of health initiatives and alignment with national priorities and capacities. Country ownership of health information systems is one of the key values of HMN in its health information system strengthening activities.
