Citation for lifetime achievment to Kimmo Leppo
Dr Kimmo Leppo, one of the founding fathers of the health promotion movements, was awarded with a Citation for Lifetime Achievement in Health Promotion. Leppo received the award at the 8th Global Conference on Health Promotion in Helsinki.
Dr Leppo, who is a former Director General of the Health Department at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health in Finland, has held several key positions in Finnish health planning.
“It almost seems that whenever something important was happening in health policy, whether at national, regional or global lever, Kimmo Leppo was there”, says Zsuzsanna Jakab, director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe.
Kimmo Leppo expressed his gratitude at the award ceremony on Thursday.
“This Citation is a great honour and I take it with gratitude and humility. I have been lucky in working always with excellent teams over the decades.”
“One thing I have learnt in the course of my working life, particularly in health promotion, has been the importance of combining various perspectives in order to understand issues work out solutions and to manage policy processes”, Leppo concluded.
Leppo has continued his professional career after his retirement by working as a international consultant, as well as author of scientific work on health policy. Leppo is also the editor in chief of the book on Health in All Policies, which was published during the conference.
