Nicaragua- HECA Seed Funds for Country Implementation
The Nicaraguan Ministry of Health and the Pan-American Health Organization in Nicaragua will implement a comprehensive joint project aimed at developing national capacities to promote healthy environments for children in the country. The project will involve a national network of non-governmental and governmental organizations.
The project will identify the whole range of relevant environmental risks to children's health in Nicaragua. The national profile on CEH will detail facts on the children's degree of exposure to environmental risks, and major health consequences. It will also include information on national capacities to cope with environmental risks to children's health, establish priorities and implement measures to alleviate risks. It will identify existing needs so that the country is able to take sustainable coping measures as appropriate.
Based on the results of the national profile, appropriate actions will be undertaken to increase public awareness of the problem. A healthy environments for children promotion network will be established and a guideline policy proposal developed aimed at decreasing environmental risks overall. As an initial activity, the national multi-sectoral network will develop and implement a campaign to prevent poisoning among children in Managua.
