Summary
United Kingdom
An Equality Impact Assessment is a process aimed at improving the quality of local health services by ensuring that individuals and teams think carefully about the likely impact of their work on different communities or groups. It involves anticipating the consequences of strategies, policies, functions and services on different communities and making sure that any negative consequences are eliminated or minimised and that opportunities for promoting equality are maximised.
An Equality Impact Assessment consists of an initial screening/scoping process, followed by a full assessment if the initial process identifies a possible adverse or negative impact, i.e. an impact that could disadvantage one or more equality groups. When several groups are put at a disadvantage, the effect may be stronger on one group than on another.
