Using evidence within HIA
Evidence commonly used in an HIA
Three sources of evidence are typically used in an HIA:
- Existing reviews or "off-the shelf" evidence
- Searching for evidence and conducting a review
- Generating and analysing new evidence
These methods are all commonly employed in HIA. However, in rapid HIAs with limited resources, less effort may be placed on some aspects. Often, the expression "best available evidence" is used, to acknowledges the resource and time constraints affecting the quality and depth of the evidence used in the appraisal stage.
