2009 meeting on ARV global demand forecasting
Joint WHO/UNAIDS informal consultation with pharmaceutical companies - forecasting global ARV demand 2010-2012
Geneva, 7-8 December 2009
The up-dated forecasts of ARV global demand 2010-2012 developed by WHO and UNAIDS were presented. Major topics covered during the meeting around the forecasts included:
- Continuous progress made in ART scale up with ARV market trends by December 2008
- Possible impact of the financial crisis on ART scale up and ARV global demand
- Information from major donor agencies (GFATM, PEPFAR and UNITAID) on current availability of funding and funding projections
- The WHO new ART and PMTC recommendations, assumptions in the use of 1st and 2nd line regimen and the transition period to the new guidelines by countries
- Update on WHO prequalification, regularly activities and pharmacovigilance project, on ARV pre-exposure prophylaxis
- Update on global initiatives including the Voluntary pooled procurement and the Patent Pool
