Joint WHO/UNAIDS informal consultation with pharmaceutical companies: Forecasting global ARV demand 2011-2012
9-10 December 2010, Geneva, Switzerland
WHO and UNAIDS jointly organize annually a consultation with ARV innovators and generic companies and active pharmaceutical ingredients producers. The objectives were:
- to take stock of progress made in ART scale up and contribution made by companies in matching the increasing global ARV demand;
- to share information on current ARV market in low and middle income countries and WHO/UNAIDS forecasts for supporting companies in the planning of their production capacity for 2011 and 2012;
- to share latest developments in the WHO HIV/AIDS Strategy and new global initiatives including Treatment 2.0 and Elimination of Vertical Transmission;
- to invite the major funding agencies for ART (GFATM, PEPFAR, UNITAID) to share information on the current availability of funding and funding projections.
