AMDS partners and stakeholders meeting 2010
22-24 March 2010
Strengthening procurement and supply management (PSM) of AIDS medicines and diagnostics (AMD) in developing countries requires effective partnership at global, regional and country levels. The AMD Network, composed of over 25 partners and stakeholders, has been established for this purpose and has recently undertaken the integration of some PSM areas (e.g. GPRM, PSM Toolbox, PSM early warning indicators) related to TB and malaria medicines in collaboration with relevant WHO Departments. Significant progress has been made in various procurement and supply management (PSM) projects including Global Price Reporting Mechanism, Forecasting of global ARVs demand, prequalification and Medicine Market and Transparency, PSM Early warning indicators to prevent stock out and overstock of ARVs, TB & malaria medicines, capacity building for strengthening PSM systems, PSM Toolbox, Coordinated Procurement Planning, Medicines patent pool, Voluntary Pooled procurement, national laboratory strategic planning, the Country Profile for Pharmaceuticals and Health Products Management, etc.
However, partners and stakeholders are still facing PSM challenges at global as well as at country levels which need to be discussed at regular basis to be tackled more effectively. AMD partners and stakeholders meet annually to share PSM experiences and to identify PSM priorities on which effective collaboration can be engaged to improve the supply chain management at global and country levels.
Objectives
The objectives of this meeting were:
- To take stock of progress and achievements made on current major projects of common interest.
- To identify during the discussions and agree on future PSM projects for collaboration within the AMD Network
- To define timeline and involved interested partners for the implementation of the identified joint projects.
- Follow up in small working groups or individual face to face meetings on specific technical joint products and operationalize agreements reached under objective 2 and 3 above.
