Drug regulatory status database
The AMDS drug regulatory status database monitors registration and marketability of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs in countries. This information is to guide countries in finding quick solutions when faced imminent stock outs to identify where country markets are insufficiently competitive for sustained and affordable access to ARVs.
While patents and intellectual property rights protect innovation, they directly and adversely affect access to HIV/AIDS medicines and supplies in developing countries. Licensing, voluntary or not, is increasingly used to mitigate the problem. The Medicines Patent Pool – one of our partner organizations - works to stimulate pooling of patents on ARVs, and makes available assessments of their patent situations in countries.
