4 December 2017 - The 19th International Conference for Africa (ICASA) opened today in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire on the theme “Africa: Ending AIDS-delivering differently”. The conference was opened by his Excellency Mr Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire.

Dr Matshidiso Moeti from Botswana is the first woman WHO Regional Director for Africa.
A long-standing champion of a people-centred approach to health and development and a strong advocate for social justice, Michel Sidibé became the second Executive Director of UNAIDS on 1 January 2009. He holds the rank of Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Mabingue Ngom has been the UNFPA Regional Director for Western and Central Africa Region (WCARO) since January 2015.
Marie-Pierre Poirier is UNICEF’s Regional Director for West and Central Africa. Based in Dakar, she provides leadership to 24 country offices across the region.
The conference will be chaired by Dr Ihab AbdelRhaman Ahmed, an epidemiologist and President of the Society for AIDS in Africa (SAA). It will be co-chaired by Dr Raymonde Coffie Goudou, Ministry of Health representing the Government of Côte d’Ivoire.
