PrEP is not for everyone. Deon and his 26-year-old wife Caroline wanted to have a child. He is on effective antiretroviral therapy because he is living with HIV.

They knew that the chances of HIV transmission during effective therapy were very low. They considered using PrEP, but decided that it was not necessary for them to feel safe.

"We feel like the risk reduction provided by Deon’s treatment is enough for us,” explained Caroline. They frequently talk with each other about his therapy. Caroline and her daughter, who is now 2 years old, are both healthy and free of HIV.
