Speaking out against stigma: Chama's story
Gideon Mendel/International HIV/AIDS Alliance

He kept the result from his sister until one day she found a slip saying he had been for an HIV test. "She asked me directly and I thought, 'she is just like a mother to me, let me tell her'."

"But when I told her the results were positive she just went off to our neighbour's house without speaking. She loved me before, but she changed into this woman who was a stranger to me. And then she actually sent me out of the place. She also sent a message around to the relatives so there was no one that was happy to have me to stay."

"Stigma is still here... It is still roaring like thunder in Zambia."
