Voices of hope: stories from communities affected by HIV and AIDS
Living with antiretroviral treatment: Ricardo's story
Gideon Mendel/International HIV/AIDS Alliance

Victor fell ill again and again. "I decided to learn as much about medications as I could. But eventually the doctor said there was nothing more he could do. I was devastated that he was gone. I used to cry rivers every day and I couldn't eat. But I told myself: I made a promise. I have things to do."

Ricardo trained as a counsellor. He liked visiting the patients in the hospitals, sharing their burdens, and giving them advice on treatment.
