Edith, 52 is a volunteer carer and knows first-hand the problems faced by her patients. She and her husband Vincent had eight children. One daughter has died of an AIDS-related disease, her three-year-old daughter lives with Edith, as do three other children who have been orphaned by the disease.

Edith is caring for Catherine, 33, with her youngest son, Kenan. Catherine has three sons aged 14, nine and two.
