Men who have sex with men and transgender people
Thirty years after the initial description of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in North American men who have sex with men (MSM), the global community faces re-emerging and newly documented HIV epidemics in MSM and transgender people worldwide, including in regions with generalized epidemics. There is a clear need to scale up and improve sustained, comprehensive and effective HIV prevention efforts targeting MSM and transgender people in low-, middle-, and high-income countries. These efforts must be complemented by a better understanding of which interventions work best, and in what contexts.
