The drinking water response to the Indian Ocean tsunami including the role of household water treatment
The 26 December 2004 tsunami devastated costal areas of eleven countries around the Indian Ocean. As part of an unprecedented emergency response, stakeholders at all levels appealed for assistance to provide safe drinking water to affected populations.
This report documents the drinking water response in the immediate aftermath of the tsunami with a view to learn lessons and guide future deployment of resources. It includes a detailed analysis of the role of household water treatment.
