Programme on interprofessional education and collaborative practice
This initiative is supporting effective collaboration in education and practice across the professions and sectors to address the global health workforce challenge and improve health outcomes. The first phase includes the launch of the WHO Study Group on Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice, which is working to synthesize the available research evidence, prepare a technical report, conduct an international environmental scan and gather case studies of excellence. The second phase includes the preparation of a global operational plan, pilot testing and ongoing policy guidance to help facilitate implementation efforts in Member States.

Mapping of health professional networks
This activity will be creating a global matrix of existing health professions using key dimensions such as their scope, function (e.g., education, practice, leadership, policy and research) and an internationally-accepted classification of professions. This matrix will facilitate dialogue on how professions can create innovative strategies for determining the desired professional skill mix that is necessary to provide the best care.
Global community of health professions
This activity will link health professionals, policymakers and stakeholders using a global virtual community of practice to share knowledge, experience and personal insights related to various global health issues. The community will focus on addressing current know-do gaps in education, practice and policy.
Continuing education
This activity will utilize innovative strategies to deliver continuing professional development to support health professionals improve the care they provide.
