Forum Standing Committee Working Groups

Forum V to Forum VI

The Forum Standing Committee guides the process of development of meeting materials and documents following the practice of lead country/sponsor/organization approach to preparing materials for agenda items. The FSC establishes working groups to assist in the preparation of documents for sessions of the Forum and carry out other work programme tasks. The working groups are open to all IFCS participants.

Following the guidance provided by IFCS participants at Forum V, the agenda for Forum VI will provide an important contribution to the global efforts to advance the sound management of chemicals including the implementation of SAICM and the second session of the International Conference on Chemicals Management in 2009 (ICCM2). Forum VI will once again provide countries the opportunity to consider priority topics on the international agenda and emphasize their special needs and concerns with respect to improving chemicals management.

The theme of Forum VI is “IFCS Global Partnerships for Chemical Safety– Contributing to the 2020 Goal”. Plenary topics for Forum VI include:
• nanotechnologies and nanomaterials: opportunities and challenges;
• substitution and alternatives;
• lead and cadmium: need for international action?;
• ecologically sound and integrated pest and vector management.

IFCS participants have committed their time and expertise to ensuring the preparation of an agenda that will contribute substantively to meeting the 2020 Goal agreed by governments and other stakeholder at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in 2002.
