IFCS Second Award of Merit

IFCS is pleased to announce Dr Michel Mercier as the winner of the second IFCS Award of Merit, to be presented at the Third Session of the Forum in October 2000. The award is presented in recognition of Dr Mercier's outstanding contributions to international activities in chemical safety.
Dr Mercier has a long and distinguished career in international chemical safety. He is Associate Professor at the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Montreal, and Visiting Professor, International Labour Office (ILO); he currently serves as adviser to the International Council on Metals and the Environment (ICME), with a particular focus on the Committee on Health and Environmental Sciences (CHES); he is also Senior Special Fellow on Chemicals and Waste Management at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). Before his retirement in 1998, Dr Mercier was Director, International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS) at the World Health Organization and Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety (IFCS).
