The Third Session of the Forum, held 15-20 October 2000 in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, reviewed the role the Forum has played, in progressing the programme of action agreed to at UNCED in Agenda 21, Chapter 19 on the sound management of chemicals.
The Forum acknowledged that ISG meetings did provide important opportunities for those with responsibility for chemical risk assessment and management to interact on a wide range of subjects, but also recognized that ISG countries have not assumed the responsibility foreseen in the original (1994) IFCS Terms of Reference and the Forum Standing Committee have largely taken up these responsibilities. Meetings of the ISG have taken on a context similar to meetings of the Forum, although with more limited participation by countries. Thus, Forum III agreed to discontinue the ISG.
