Travel and transport: Pandemic H1N1 2009 - Lessons learned for building a safer world
From 9 to 10 December 2010, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) hosted the conference, Travel and tourism and the pandemic 2009: Lessons learned for building a safer world at UNWTO Headquarters, Madrid, Spain. The conference brought together travel and tourism experts from governments, international development organizations, United Nations agencies, nongovernmental organizations and the private sector to review experiences and lessons learned during pandemic H1N1 2009. Participants identified approaches that proved effective and will advocate for the replication of these approaches in related disaster preparedness programmes.

Training Programs in Epidemiology and Public Health Interventions Network (TEPHINET) - Global scientific conference 2010
WHO continues its collaboration with TEPHINET, a non-profit-making, professional alliance of all field epidemiology training programs (FETPs) with the aim of strengthening international public health capacity through the support and networking of field-based training programmes. TEPHINETs Sixth Global Scientific Conference took place on 13-17 December in Cape Town, South Africa. The IHR Department contributed to the work of the scientific committee and co organized two workshops with the project Connecting Health Organizations for Regional Disease Surveillance (CHORDS).
