Global Foodborne Infections Network Steering Committee meeting, 26−28 September 2012, Lyon, France

The Global Foodborne (FN) Steering Committee meeting takes place every year and is the forum for discussing the strategic direction of the network and plan the work of the upcoming year. The Steering Committee members provide both human and financial resources to the network activities. This year, discussions focused on identifying synergies with IHR capacity building; reviewing progress on the evaluation framework; identifying how to best measure the impact of GFN; and developing the plan of work for 2013. International Travel and Health (ITH) book and web site, 2012 edition

ITH provides practical advice on how travellers can stay healthy while travelling anywhere around the globe. It includes WHO guidance on vaccinations, malaria chemoprophylaxis and treatment, personal protection against insects and other disease vectors, and safety in different environmental settings, and covers all major risks to travellers’ health, both during their journeys and at their destinations. ITH describes all relevant infectious diseases, including their causative agents, modes of transmission, clinical features and geographical distribution, and provides details of prophylactic and preventive measures. The 2012 edition includes information for last-minute travellers, updated vaccine recommendations and schedules, a revised list of countries and areas at risk of yellow fever, updated maps showing disease distribution and more. International travel and health consultation, 2 May 2012, Singapore

An international travel and health (ITH) consultation was organized with the support of the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM), prior to the 9th Asia Pacific Travel health conference in Singapore. The overall objective of the consultation was to reinforce regional and global health security by promoting the development of travel health information-sharing in the Asia Pacific region.
