What's new in the WHO regions?
EURO: TRAVEL AND TRANSPORT – POINTS OF ENTRY
From 26 to 28 May 2008, in Hamburg, Germany, the WHO Regional Office for Europe, the IHR Coordination Programme and the Hamburg Port Authority hosted a WHO workshop to introduce the recommended procedures for inspection and issuance of ship sanitation certificates (SSC) and to field-test the WHO training concept and training materials for inspection and issuance of SSCs under the IHR.

From 17 to 19 June 2008, in Bridgetown, Barbados, the Pan American Health Organization/WHO Regional Office for the Americas, Barbados and Eastern Caribbean Office and Caribbean Program Coordination, and the IHR Coordination Programme held a sub regional meeting for English speaking Caribbean countries, with support for the field exercise from the Barbados MoH and Port Authority. Main topics: IHR implementation at airports, ports and ground crossings; introduction to the recommended procedures, training concept and training materials for the inspection and issuance of ship sanitation certificates; introduction and field-test of the WHO draft assessment tool for core capacity requirements for points of entry under the IHR.
PAHO/AMRO: BRIEFING ON TRAVEL AND TRANSPORT – POINTS OF ENTRY
From 23 to 25 June 2008, in Brasilia, Brazil, the Pan American Health Organization/ WHO Regional Office for the Americas, the IHR Coordination Programme, Brazil MoH, and ANVISA (the PoE national authority) hosted a sub regional meeting for Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries. The objective was to continue the work of the initial meeting (held in Mexico - December 2007), on the following topics: field-testing of the WHO draft assessment tool for implementation of IHR core capacities at airports, ports and ground crossings; recommended procedures, training concept and training materials for the inspection and issuance of ship sanitation certificates; strengthening communication and networking among the competent points of entry authorities in the sub region.
