WHO's work to improve the health of families and communities is key to meeting MDGs 3 (to promote gender equality and empower women), 4 (to reduce child mortality), 5 (to improve maternal health), and 6 (to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases).

This was the main message highlighted by WHO staff interacting with delegates visiting the Family and Community Health (FCH) stand at the 2011 World Health Assembly.

An information sheet on the specific activities undertaken by FCH in support of the MDGs was handed out to representatives of ministries of health, technical partners and non-governmental organizations, as was a CD containing key technical and strategic documents in several languages produced by WHO during the last five years.

A summary table of WHO recommendations for routine immunization proved particularly popular, as did cloth bags emblazoned with "Vaccines save lives".
