El Tayeb Ahmed El Sayed, is the Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health and Emergency, Federal Ministry of Health, Sudan. Dr El Sayed has formerly been the National Director of Mother and Child Health “MCH” (Feb. 2008 – March 2010), Federal Ministry of Health, Sudan. From 2001 - 2008 he was the National EPI Manager & Director of Child Health Department in Sudan. He established measles case- based surveillance for the first time in the country and also established BMS and Rotavirus lab- based surveillance.
In his current role, Dr El Sayed provides technical, intellectual, managerial and administrative leadership to the Epidemiology and Zoonotic diseases department including communicable disease surveillance and the Food Control & Environmental Department, Public Health Laboratory, Disaster Management and EHA Department, Integrated Vector Control, Community development initiative programs including CBI & Health promotion in Sudan including Non-Communicable Diseases.
He participates in providing inputs into policy dialogues at national level in area of public health and environmental health.
He ensures that strategic and national plans with regard to communicable diseases control and outbreak prevention activities are well implemented. In addition he supervises, manages and coordinates communicable disease surveillance in the country including surveillance of diseases prevented by new vaccines.
Dr El Sayed also promotes multi-disciplinary, flexible and result-oriented approaches to the work of the team in the area of disease control, outbreak and disaster mitigation and community development.
He fosters partnerships and coordinated actions in the area of community development and community interventions including healthy workplaces and healthy settings. In addition he oversees and ensures the development of polices and strategies, facilitates and supervises the implementation of non-communicable diseases including its integration into primary health care.
Dr El Sayed has participated in numerous international conferences and meetings and He was involved in different consultancy missions for WHO EMRO and worked as a WHO Short Term Consultant for EPI/ PEI and measles elimination and surveillance in different countries in the region (EMRO) namely; Lebanon, Pakistan, Yemen, Egypt, Iraq, Afghanistan.
He is working also as an associate Professor in Public Health and Community Medicine as a joint staff in some universities in Sudan. Dr. El Sayed is a member of Community Medicine Council at Sudan Medical Specialization Board (SMSB 2009 – 2013) and supervises MD thesis of Community Medicine and Public Health post- graduate students.
