Vaccine quality control technology

Course on vaccine quality control technology at the Research Foundation for Microbial Diseases of Osaka University (BIKEN), Japan

The participants are expected to acquire quality control technology for an acceptance inspection of their domestically produced or imported vaccines and techniques for preserving and using vaccine correctly in their countries.

Course overview

The course consists of common subjects and special subjects for all participants and group work in the laboratory. Common subjects are a GMP lecture, vaccine production, vaccine development and general quality control. Special subjects are the practice of safety tests, potency tests, chemical tests and identity tests.

Applicants to the course should be:

  • university/college graduate or equivalent with occupational experience of more than three years in developing, manufacturing and quality control of biological products;
  • between thirty and forty-five years old;
  • engaged in the same field after returning to their country;
  • working at a national control authority or other form of vaccine quality control institutions approved by the World Health Organization for this course.

Training institutions are the Osaka International Centre (OSIC), JICA and the Research Foundation for Microbial Diseases of Osaka University.

The training course is the joint training programme hosted both by WHO and Japan. It means this training programme is conducted also by JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency of the Japanese Government) as a part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) of the government. In this sense, those who wish to participate in this training course are kindly requested to meet the Requirements for Application as shown in the General Information (G.I.) provided by JICA to the Japanese Embassy or JICA representative office. A compulsory intensive Japanese language course will be conducted prior to the technical training for three weeks.
