Quality control of DTP vaccines
Course on quality control of DTP vaccines at the National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), The Netherlands
This course is designed to enable staff from vaccine manufacturers and National Regulatory Authorities from developing countries to upgrade their knowledge in relevant areas of Quality Control (QC) of DTP vaccines.
The course will take three weeks and is designed for senior scientific quality control managers and quality control department heads. As the course will include hands-on bench work, the number of participants is limited to eight (8).
Course overview
This course includes all aspects of DTP QC testing, and is based on the WHO DTP guidelines. A comprehensive course manual consisting of modules addressing specific topics will be handed out to the participants. The programme includes seminars explaining the specific regulations and theoretical background. Real-life cases based on the experience of the participants will be an integral part of practical exercises and discussions. Participants will have the opportunity to do practical bench work in the various QC tests. They also will get the necessary information about the preparation and testing of critical materials such as reference preparations, antisera and media. Relevant literature and regulations will be supplied to the participants to be used as reference material. The main topics are: microbiological quality assurance; sterility tests; potency tests; antimicrobial preservative effectiveness tests; chemical tests; toxicity tests; antigen content tests and serological tests. The focus is being shifted from extensive practical sessions to include more lectures on the six NRA functions. Opportunity is being given to participants to choose which tests are most relevant to their own work.
