Immunization supply and procurement

What are the key features of good vaccine procurement?

Reliable suppliers

A reliable supplier is one that is responsive to the purchasers needs and enquiries, has a proven track record, has adequate supply chain management, offers high quality products, at reasonable prices and meets all the agreed terms and conditions of the contract.

Supplier reliability requires good contract monitoring. Suppliers should be aware that contract monitoring and reliability will be measured and what actions can occur if they fail to meet their obligations.

Measuring supplier reliability requires an adequate monitoring system at a central level which allows for tracking of key determinants of supply. Maintaining a list of suppliers with WHO prequalified products which also identifies their reliability in terms of supply and meeting their contractual obligations helps to assist in future tender rounds. The list may identify suppliers that failed to address any issues and identify methods for remedy which may assist in future contracting.
