Training Activities:

On the job training of Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) managers, at annual meetings in West and Central Africa Region. The topics include microplanning of EPI activities, drop out rate monitoring, injection safety, the high risk approach for maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination, measles control, etc. Usually one week to 12 days. IMMUNIZATIONbasics has created guidelines for microplanning, monitoring tools for dropout rates, communication and behavior change materials, etc.

In Guinea, they are/have been involved in the training of the disease control and surveillance officers in adverse events following immunization (AEFI) surveillance, district EPI managers in monitoring, head nurses of new primary health care in routine EPI and in the training of trainers for polio national immunization days (NID). In Mali, they were mainly involved in the training of district level managers in the microplanning of measles control activities, AEFI surveillance, and monitoring. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, they were involved in micro-planning. In Senegal, measles surveillance, drop out rate monitoring for district level managers. In Uganda, training on participatory community problem solving. In India, training on better targeting of resources through different strategies.

Will contribute to:

  • the development of EPI training materials, e.g.: systems strengthening and immunization safety
  • the development of a feedback mechanism that inspires competition among district level managers
  • promote the 'Peer Teaming Strategy' that use 'peers' to improve EPI management in low performing districts.
