| No country is safe from infectious diseases. In a world of rapid
air travel, outbreaks of infectious disease leave populations and nations vulnerable.
WHO's Outbreak Verification network is linked to the WHO global surveillance system,
a worldwide network of laboratories and reporting sites that collects information on
reported and rumoured outbreaks nationally and worldwide. Once confirmed, information is
made available immediately on the World Wide Web, and WHO forms partnerships to
investigate and contain those outbreaks which could spread internationally and require
