Annual SIGN meetings

SIGN meetings

SIGN meets annually to facilitate collaboration and synergies among participants of the safe injection global network. Specific objectives include:

  • reviewing progress achieved;
  • exchanging information and ideas;
  • identifying upcoming key issues and future challenges.

The 2005 SIGN meeting was held in Hanoi VietNam 14 to 16 November 2005. Main points discussed were progress of the various injection safety projects in Asia as well as progress of the health care worker protection including the three WHO needle-stick prevention projects.

SIGN 2006
The 2006 annual SIGN meeting was held in Mexico City, Mexico, 23 to 25 October 2006, back-to-back with the TechNet meeting on strengthening immunization services management. During the meetying the new WHO Standard Precautions for Injection Safety was presented as well as the revised Injection Safety assessment tool whose scope was expanded to include intravenous injections, phlebotomies and lancets.

SIGN 2007
The 2007 annual meeting was held from 23 to 25 October 2007 at WHO Headquarters, Geneva. The meeting comprised plenary sessions on day one and three while all day two was dedicated to four parallel sessions. Addressing the following topics:
review strategies to improve implementation of injection safety programs at country level, how to improved access by developing countries to safe injection technologies, strategies to measure impact of injection safety activities at country level and development of comprehensive strategies for the prevention of blood born pathogen transmission in health care settings
