Many organizations, institutions and other bodies provide information related to intellectual property rights, innovation and public health. Following is a list of some of them. If you would like to suggest a new link, please send an e-mail to cipih@who.int.

International organizations

  • World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
    WIPO is a UN specialised agency with 179 member states that administers 23 international treaties dealing with different aspects of intellectual property protection.
  • The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS)
    An intergovernmental organisation, UNAIDS is the main advocate for global action on the HIV/ AIDS epidemic.
  • United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)
    UNCTAD is the focal point within the United Nations for the integrated treatment of trade and development and the interrelated issues in the areas of finance, technology, investment and sustainable development.
  • The World Bank Group
    A development Bank which provides loans, policy advice, technical assistance and knowledge sharing services to low and middle income countries to reduce poverty.
  • Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
    The OECD produces internationally agreed instruments, decisions and recommendations and its work covers economic and social issues from macroeconomics, to trade, education, development and science and innovation.
  • The Global Fund
    The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria was created to dramatically increase resources to fight three of the world's most devastating diseases, and to direct those resources to areas of greatest need.
  • European Commission Research Directorate-General
    Responsible for providing information on scientific research and technological development in the European Union providing a link to the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP).
  • European Commission Trade Directorate-General
    The body is in charge of implementing the external trade policy of the European Union. This provides a link to its work in the area of access to medicines.
  • World Trade Organization (WTO)
    Information on intellectual property in the WTO, news and official records of the activities of the TRIPS Council, and details of the WTO’s work with other international organizations in the field.
