Burden of disease
An important issue is identifying the major causes of morbidity and mortality in developing countries, and their human, social and economic costs. The priorities for research and development and innovation must flow from an understanding of the burden of disease on developing countries, and how new technologies could contribute to their solution. There is the further question of whether currently available medicines for particular diseases are in fact adequate.
