Health Sector Input: Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM)
The World Health Assembly Resolution 56.22 in May 2003 called for the participation of global health partners in SAICM and urged Member States to take full account of the health aspects of chemical safety in the further development of SAICM. Further discussions on SAICM will take place 4-8 October 2004, Nairobi, Kenya (http://www.chem.unep.ch/saicm/). Over 60 Member States have made contributions to WHO regarding the possible elements of the SAICM including policy matters, coordination between countries and international conventions, capacity building and participation in the SAICM, its preparatory meetings, conference and follow-up. The contributions on the health aspects of chemical safety were presented at the Fourth Meeting of the Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety (IFCS) held 1-7 November 2003 as well as the first and second preparatory meetings for the SAICM.
