BACKGROUND ON HEALTH SECTOR ENGAGEMENT IN SAICM

The World Health Assembly Resolution 56.22 in May 2003 called for the participation of global health partners in SAICM and urged Member States to take full account of the health aspects of chemical safety in the development of SAICM. A progress report on implementation of WHA56.22 was considered by the World Health Assembly in May 2005. As a result of WHO Member States contributions on the health aspects of chemical safety, and the engagement of the health sector in the SAICM process, all of the priorities developed by the health sector have been included in the final SAICM. These are included in the WHO Conference Room Paper for the ICCM provided below.
