International Conference on Chemicals Management

The fourth session of the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM4) is scheduled to be convened by UNEP from 28 September to 2 October 2015, Geneva. Agenda topics for this conference include identifying remaining challenges and adopting strategic decisions towards achieving the goal of sound management of chemicals by 2020. Regional and sectoral implementation will be discussed and emerging policy issues (EPIs) addressed.

Meeting- and informative documents
WHO is co-leading work on the EPIs Lead in Paint and Endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Meeting document Emerging policy issues and other issues of concern (SAICM/ICCM. 4/9) provides a summary of progress achieved. SAICM/ICCM.4/INF/14 and SAICM/ICCM.4/INF/20 present further information about work on lead in paint and endocrine disrupting chemicals respectively.
WHO has conducted an online survey of health sector stakeholders to collect views on health-related priorities related to the 2020 goal of sound chemicals management (more information can be found on the webpage “Health sector priorities in chemicals management”). The results of this consultation are presented in SAICM/ICCM.4/INF/11.
WHO submitted a Report by the World Health Organization on the engagement of the health sector in the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM/ICCM.4/INF/3).
WHO, with its partners in the Inter-organization Programme for the Sound Management of Chemicals, has contributed a number of additional documents which can be found on the IOMC website together with an article on the achievements of the IOMC in its first 20 years.
Side- event
WHO has organized a health sector meeting side event scheduled for Monday 28 September where, amongst others, a discussion will take place on how to follow up to implement the identified health sector priorities.
