World - Protection against insect bites

Malaria transmission, outbreaks of dengue, chickungunya, West Nile fever and Rift Valley Fever highlight the importance of protection against insect bites for travellers of all age groups. Advice regarding protection against insect vectors is an important part of the pre-travel counselling provided by Travel Medicine clinics. Travellers may protect themselves from mosquitoes and other vectors by use of insect repellents, mosquito nets, mosquito coils, aerosol sprays, protective clothing, use of screens or staying in air-conditioned environment when available. Further information are available in the International Travel and Health (ITH) publication, chapter 3 - "protection against vectors".
