Innovations in measurement
WHO Kobe Centre (WKC) is working with scientists, government officials, international agencies and community groups around the world to develop innovative methods and standards for monitoring and evaluating urban health. The Urban Health Equity Assessment and Response Tool (Urban HEART) released in 2010 is a prime example.
At WHO Kobe Centre, we continue to strive to provide policy makers with metrics to help tackle old and new challenges to health equity in their cities. Current initiatives include:
1. developing a benchmark system in Japan to monitor healthy ageing
2. defining indicators for evaluating age-friendliness of cities
3. exploring the creation of a global urban health index.
