Investing in every woman, child and adolescent to survive and thrive by 2030
Launch of GFF
An Every Woman Every Child High-Level Event with the launch of the Global Financing Facility
Hosted by the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon
At the Third International Conference on Financing for Development, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 13 July 2015 (5:00-6:30pm)
13 JULY 2015 / ADDIS ABABA – After a consultative process, the creation of the Global Financing Facility was announced at the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014.
This event hosted by the UN Secretary-General formally launches the Global Financing Facility (GFF) in support of Every Woman Every Child – a partnerships-based financing mechanism and potential pathfinder for post-2015 financing. Together with the World Bank President, Canada, Norway and the United States, with Heads of State and global leaders, the afternoon side event showcases innovative and transformative financing approaches that will contribute to delivering results for the UN SG’s updated Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescent Health.
The event takes place alongside the Third International Conference on Financing for Development. In this transition to the Sustainable Development Goals, (SDGs), the challenge is to continue to accelerate momentum and protect the often fragile gains. Front and centre in accelerating progress is the issue of financing maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health needs.
