Capacity building workshop
For The Global Fund proposal writing to include MNH service delivery area for health systems strengthening
Overview
The Global Fund, one of the main mechanisms for financial support in the health sector, encourages countries to request financial support to strengthen their health systems. Systems and services covering maternal and newborn as well as reproductive health are uniquely positioned for scaling up services especially in the area of prevention of mother-to-child infection of HIV and malaria in pregnancy. To accelerate progress towards the achievement of MDGs 4, 5 and 6 a more integrated and harmonized action based on the internationally agreed principles for aid effectiveness is needed. To capitalize on this opportunity and to make a case for maternal and newborn health in this context, MPS in collaboration with other WHO departments developed a capacity building concept. This activity guides and supports countries that want to strengthen their health systems to ensure a continuum of care and universal coverage of maternal and newborn essential interventions by using malaria and HIV as entry points.
