Overview

The Department of Child and Adolescent Health and Development is committed to improve the access of adolescents to quality health services. Our efforts are two-fold: to improve the knowledge and skills of health workers with respect to adolescents health and development needs; and, improve the organization and delivery of health services. Nurses and midwives are in a unique position by virtue of their education, numbers, and diversity of practice arenas to contribute to the health of adolescents.

In collaboration with the WHO Department of Human Resources for Health, this document of core competencies was developed for professional nursing and midwifery education worldwide. It also includes strategies for integrating adolescent health and development into curricula and several tools to assist in this integration.
