Her infant should continue to take daily NVP (assuming the national ARV recommendation is Option A) for about six weeks after the mother has initiated ART. It is likely that a significant decrease in maternal viral load (and therefore a decrease in risk of HIV transmission through breast milk) will have occurred by this time.
