Fourth International Course on African Trypanosomiasis (Sleeping Sickness)
Date: 10-28 October 2005
Location: Tunis, Tunisia
The Fourth International Training Course on African Trypanosomiasis (ICAT4) organized by World Health Organization (WHO) and the Association against Trypanosomiasis in Africa (ATA) will be held at the WHO Mediterranean Centre (WMC) for Vulnerability Reduction in Tunis, Tunisia from 10-28 October 2005. This training course is in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) with participation of the Tunisian Pasteur Institute.
This course is part of the training courses developed by WHO and the Association against Trypanosomiasis in Africa (ATA) to meet the need in human resources to combat the disease in the field. It is a follow-up to the previous courses that took place successively in Marseilles in 2000 (ICAT1), Lyon in 2001 (ICAT2) and Lisbon in 2003 (ICAT3).
Similarly to preceding courses, the objective of this fourth one, is to raise interest and provide knowledge in African Trypanosomiasis among doctors, veterinarians, entomologists, scientists and other staff responsible for disease surveillance and control. This three-week course will be delivered in both English and French language.
Candidates need to be fluent in one of the two languages and should have a very good knowledge of the other, in order to follow lectures given in either one or the other language. The minimum level of education required is a medical, veterinary or pharmacy degree or a doctorate in biology or entomology; or other formal, high level educational qualifications that can be applied in field operations.
Applicants will be selected from both the North and the South, with priority given to African practitioners and others who are currently working or will work in the field of Trypanosomiasis.
