Save lives: clean your hands campaign
Place: Geneva, Switzerland
Date: 5 May 2010
"Save lives: clean your hands" is a global campaign to improve hand hygiene among health-care workers. It advocates the need to improve hand hygiene practices of health-care workers to help stop the spread of potentially life-threatening infections in health-care facilities.
The campaign celebrates its second year with the launch of the "Hand Hygiene Self-Assessment Framework," a tool to analyse hand hygiene promotion and practices within clinics and hospitals. Webinars on infection control will also be held on 3, 5 and 6 May to reach out to health professionals.
The "Save lives: clean your hands" initiative invites health-care facilities to participate in a global survey on or around 5 May 2010 to observe health-care workers' hand hygiene practices before touching a patient. It also asks them to demonstrate their commitment to improving hand hygiene by registering to a global database, with the goal of reaching 10 000 health-care facility registrations by May 2010.
