Tobacco: the burden, the solution
Place: Shanghai, China
Date: 27 May–5 June 2010
World No Tobacco Day 2010: The World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners, including World Lung Foundation and Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, are opening a new exhibit at the UN Pavilion of the Shanghai Expo entitled "Tobacco: the burden, the solution".
In the exhibit, visually intriguing images and floor patterns graphically depict the burden of disease from tobacco. Visitors can see tobacco's victims reduced to outlines, experience the body tracings on the floor reminiscent of chalk marks at a crime scene, and find themselves surrounded by a smoke ring image in the interactive floor design.
EXPOs are large public exhibitions. In terms of economic impact they are the world's third largest cultural events, after the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics. The theme of Expo 2010 is "Better City, Better Life."
WHO will participate in the year's EXPO as part of the United Nations (UN). The theme of the UN pavilion is "One Earth, One UN." The UN pavilion will have four components: permanent exhibitions, temporary exhibitions, magazine and web site.
