Rio+20 – United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development
Place: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Date: 20–22 June 2012
Rio + 20 - the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development - is an opportunity to put the world on track to a sustainable development path. It is a chance to re-examine the links between health, the environment, and sustainable development.
A healthy environment is a prerequisite for good health. Air, water and chemical pollution have a major impact on the global burden of disease.
Better health is important for sustainable development. Healthy people are better able to learn, earn, and contribute to society.
Providing universal health coverage is key. It both ensures people remain healthy and protects them from being pushed into poverty.
The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) is being organized in accordance with General Assembly Resolution (A/RES/64/236). It is a high level United Nations Conference attended by Heads of State and Government or other government representatives.
