Fifth Ministerial Meeting on Environment and Health

Date: 10–12 March 2010
Place: Parma, Italy

The Fifth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health, organized by WHO/Europe and hosted by Italy, is the next milestone in the European environment and health process, now in its twentieth year. Focused on protecting children's health in a changing environment, the conference will drive Europe's agenda on emerging environmental health challenges.

Since the Fourth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health in 2004, countries in the Region have made progress towards four goals:

  • protecting health through safe water and adequate sanitation;
  • ensuring safety from injuries and better health from adequate physical activity;
  • improving respiratory health through clean indoor and outdoor air; and
  • safeguarding health from chemicals and through strong labour standards.

The Fifth Ministerial Conference will review these developments in the context of a broader, evolving scenario that includes socioeconomic and gender inequalities, extreme climate events and recent financial constraints.
