Date: 9 June 2008
Place: New York City, United States of America
The HIV/TB Global Leaders Forum aims to draw attention to the urgent need for collaboration to reduce the number of HIV-positive people dying of tuberculosis. TB takes the lives of nearly a quarter of a million people living with HIV every year. It is the number one cause of death among people living with HIV in Africa. Worldwide it is a leading cause of death in this population.
The Forum will convene global political leaders, senior officials, leaders of civil society foundations, the private sector and the media. The aim is to adopt a call for action to inform the debate during the high-level meeting on AIDS in the UN General Assembly, taking place 10-11 June 2008.
The Forum is endorsed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations and co-sponsored by WHO, UNAIDS, the Stop TB Partnership, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and the World Bank.
