First Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety
Date: 19-20 November 2009
Place: Moscow, Russia
The Government of the Russian Federation will host the First Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety. Welcomed by the UN General Assembly, the Conference is an historic opportunity to advance road safety around the world and improve global public health.
The Conference objectives are to:
- draw attention to the need for action on the large and growing global impact of road traffic crashes, particularly in developing countries;
- review implementation progress of the World report on road traffic injury prevention and related resolutions;
- provide a high-level international policy platform to share information and good practices on road safety; and
- propose actions for the future.
The programme will include plenary sessions on good practices and panel discussions on related topics. A declaration for action is expected to be adopted by all Member States during the event. Outcomes of the conference will support preparations for a Decade of Action on Road Safety, a potential topic of the UN General Assembly in 2010.
